Kigutilik, the spirit with the giant’s teeth, was encountered by the Iglulik Inuit mystic Anarqâq. It emerged from a hole in the ice while Anarqâq was out sealing in the spring.
Kigutilik is monstrous to behold. It is as big as a bear, but taller, standing on long legs with large bumps at the joints. It has two tails, a single large ear connected only through a fold in the skin, and massive teeth like the tusks of a walrus. It is bare-skinned with hair in fringes on its body.
When it appeared it roared – ah – ah – ah! Anarqâq was so terrified he ran home without securing the spirit’s aid as a helper.

That really sucks he didn’t get to make any kind of deal with that spirit. Kigutilik sounds like they would have made for a great protector at the very least

The source has a drawing of it.

Considering the fact that this was a random spirit only ever seen by one person, there is not enough information to give a satisfactory answer as to why it has an ear on top of its head

Interesting that it has tusks like a walrus, but wasn’t identified as one. Curious!

The presence of actual legs as opposed to flippers, the purple skin, and having a giant ear on top of its head probably had something to do with it not being taken to be a walrus. Those are very un-walrusy traits and I’m willing to bet an Inuit person would have an understanding of what your garden-variety walrus is supposed to look like

Purple skin is my invention though…I wanted something a bit colorful :s

This seems like an exaggerated retelling of the first time an Inuit person saw a horse.
