Variations: Hantu Bulong (Malay), Bulong, Spirit Bulong
Bès Bulong, the spirit Bulong or simply Bulong, is a bès or spirit from the folklore of the Jah Hut people of Malaysia. It walks around by night. If it sees anyone walking about between midnight and 6:00 AM, it will pull out that person’s soul and leave them unconscious.

This thing is cute. Like what a parent would draw if their child asked what this spirit looks like. 🙂 Where did you get your description?

The one source in the references is all I have! And yes, each spirit is represented with a short description and a photo of a wood carving of it. I put up the original on FB and tumblr, I tried to stay as close as possible to it because it’s so cute 🙂

What does it want to do with the souls that it takes? What is the ritual to get them back (if there is one at all!)?

The Bès in general are disease spirits, so presumably the shaman would know how to save such a soul
