The Mazacoatl, “deer snake”, is a great serpent that lives in caves on steep mountains and cliffs. It has antlers on its head and a rattle on its tail. It never leaves its lair, as it can draw in with its breath rabbits, deer, and humans alike.

Reminds me of the Uktena, which lives in water however.

Did you use any particular snake in RL for the base for Maza?

Not consciously at least. I try to come up with unique color schemes for each snake I paint, and I don’t think I’ve done orangey with greenish stripes.

Magic… Breath? What? Does it just smell delicious to draw prey, or is it just like a vacuum that sucks in surrounding creatures?

Antlered snake! That’s new.
Man, all those months of looking up Aztec stuff and I never came across stuff like this.

I read that the some of the horned/feathered serpents of Americavand the wyrms of Eroupe and norway, share similiaretis look and habittat with caterpillars and mollusks, not mention some actuall cryptids that fitt with this description… so what if, the ‘rattle-snake tail’ is actually the Conch, and the ‘horns’ are actually multi-eyes antenas??
