N is for… Nhang
“Nhang” is a Persian word for crocodile. In Armenian it refers to the Biblical crocodile and hippopotamus and a monstrous aquatic spirit that lives in the Euphrates. It can appear as a woman or a seal. It seizes people and drowns them, then drains them of their blood.
A Book of Creatures 
Very cool. Very Dougal Dixon-ish in the vein of the speculative animals in his “After Man” or “The New Dinosaurs” books. I can imagine it being some sort of mustelid that evolved into a niche once filled by crocodiles or river dolphins.

I can relate to that. For example, my concept of the Pilou was based on the Kangaroo Rat until I changed it
