The Wulver lives alone in a cave halfway up a steep knowe on the Isle of Unst in Shetland. He stands upright like a man, but has a wolf’s head and a body covered in short brown hair.
A peaceful loner, the Wulver never harms people as long as he isn’t harmed. He likes to fish, and for hours will sit upon a rock, the “Wulver’s Stane”, and catch yearling coalfish. Frequently he will leave a gift of a few fish on the windowsill of the poor and old of Shetland.

So basically this is a fursona but mythological. Like he doesn’t even have any magical powers and he just seems like a decent guy.

I like to think that it started out as a hairy unkempt hobo who liked fishing and got embellished along the way.

Well, I mean, I wouldn’t really call him a fursona. That’s a bit anthropocentric, don’t you think? What if a werewolf walked up to you and called you a skinsona? Lol

This brings new meaning to “skin wolves”…

It’s undoubtedly mostly harmless, but that fishing pole looks an awful lot like a blade. I can understand why people would be afraid.

That and the whole wolf aspect. Also it looks like a blade because I’m not good at drawing it 😥

Some monsters fight heroes. Others? They just like to fish.
I think the Wulver is one of my favorite monsters because it’s just such a funny image to imagine a werewolf patiently waiting for a fish to bite. I bet it would be great to chat with him. Tell him my problems. He feels like the kind of person who might not have advice but would just be there and listen while he was focused on his catch

And he’d have a cute Scottish accent, don’t forget!

The only thing I’d want him to respond with after I told him everything on my mind would be “Aye”

Bad news. The Wulver has been debunked. I saw a video on it recently:/

Same, saw it too! Not a big loss honestly. I want to make a post about the things I wouldn’t include in the final version of ABC…

It’s always a loss to know there aren’t any Scottish fisherwolves!

Yeah but it’s not especially unique visually. I’m more concerned about losing the Marool. I got that from the same source, but other sources say it’s the name of the anglerfish. Might be another Saxby invention…
